This is the type of signal that typically flows through your recording system after the preamplifier stage and before the amplifier that powers your speakers. Line level signals are the highest level signals before amplification. A preamplifier is required to bring the signal up to line level. These signals refer to any level put out by an instrument, commonly from an electric guitar or bass. Instrument level signals fall between mic level (lower) and line level (higher) signals. This is the lowest, or weakest, level signal of the four and requires a preamplifier to bring it up to line level. Mic level is the voltage of signal generated by a microphone.

Although, it was bought new I did not get a manual or display box with the amp because they didn’t have it in the shop.Ĭlick to expand. And guitar level/ passive pickups is usually below mic level? Or same? I thought piezo pickups tend to be close to mic level. If this info is in the amp manual, please advise me of that and I’ll read it online. This is a bit annoying because I would ideally like the guitar to go into the PA as well but without it sounding so very different to what’s coming out of the amp. This is a bit of a nightmare!ĭoes anybody know why there should be a difference between the sound of the guitar out of the amp speaker and the sound of it from the extension speaker output though the PA? Is it because the Vox amp speakers are different and making it sound better or is the signal the extension speaker out is sending somehow different to what the amp speaker is getting? It gets less bad though the PA when you turn it up in the PA but I don’t want it any loader in the PA for reasons of balance of volume with the vocal.

What’s more when the guitar channel on the PA is at it’s quietest setting it sounds really bad through the PA but obviously still awesome out of the amp speaker. However, when practicing with a PA system I use the extension speaker output to put the guitar though the PA as well as out of the amp speaker and I have noticed the sound though the PA (clean and distorted) is very different to the sound of it out of the amp speaker.
